Excerpt 1:   This lightly accompanied piano solo is the same music that plays in the Lulu.com preview.

Excerpt 2:  In this excerpt, the flute explores and develops a new melody through use of the predominant rhythm, while the bass and percussion develop a secondary theme, and the guitars and piano provide an accompaniment based on the first development of the initial melody.

Excerpt 3:  In this two-minute selection, all themes reach their final development and move toward a climactic polyphonic moment where there is literally no accompaniment as flute, guitars, piano, bass, and percussion all vie for center stage in a vast complex of entangled melodies, countermelodies, and rhythms. Themes sound oddly fresh yet familiar since, in their final development, they are played in tonal contexts and textures different from their original performance and passed back and forth between instruments. At this point, it becomes apparent that what at first seemed to be accompaniment and background was actually a series of undeveloped melodies.

Excerpt 4:  How does it all begin? An underlying milonga ostinato with percussive jazz accents sets the background for an insistent, echoed, five-note melodic piano riff. The milonga pattern is soon reinforced by guitar and flute and leads to a brief melodic interlude culminating in the first cadence.

Excerpt 5:  How does it end? Listen to the last dozen measures of the coda!
